Fenton River Project: As part of
the impact assessment of UConn’s water use, The CT IWR has been
awarded a research grant to investigate the relationships between fish
habitat and instream flow for a section of the Fenton River from Old
Turnpike Road to Mansfield Hollow Lake. The overall goal of the study
is to develop relationships between instream flow rates in the Fenton
River and habitat availability for selected fish species and life stages.
Golf Course Water Management
Project: In 2001, the Institute collaborated with
the CT Department of Environmental Protection on an Information Transfer
Project related to golf course water management. As a part of this project,
IWR chaired an Advisory Committee charged with developing a set of Best Management Practices for Golf Course Water.
A conference was held
in the Fall of 2001 where the committee's report was presented and discussed.
Invasive Species: The Institute is cooperating with volunteers (Mansfield Plant Monitors) from the town of Mansfield on a project to monitor the effects of invasive shrub removal in a riparian corridor in Schoolhouse Brook Park.
